The No. 3 Virginia Cavaliers picked up one of their biggest wins of the season with a triumph over the No. 9 Louisville Cardinals, but the victory proved costly. Junior guard Justin Anderson is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after fracturing his finger during the game, the school announced on Saturday night.

Anderson suffered the injury in the first half against Louisville, left the game and didn’t return. He ended his night with two points on 1-of-9 shooting and four rebounds. The junior is second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game, and leads the team in three-point makes (46) and shooting percentage (48.4 percent) this season.

Virginia beat Louisville 52-47 in a defensive struggle on Saturday, reinforcing the Cavaliers’ spot atop the ACC. Virginia (21-1, 9-1) owns a two-game lead in the loss column over four teams in the conference, including Louisville.

Anderson is scheduled for surgery to repair the fracture on his left (shooting) hand on Sunday, Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said after the game. That ACC Tournament begins in just over four weeks from Saturday.
