2015 Big Ten Tournament results and bracket: Wisconsin beats Michigan, advances to semifinal round

The Badgers get another double-double from Frank Kaminsky and advance to the Big Ten semis.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

No. 1 seed Wisconsin survived its first test of the 2016 Big Ten Tournament, outlasting No. 9 Michigan Friday in the quarterfinal round in Chicago. The Badgers won 71-60 on the strength of 16 points and 12 rebounds from senior forward Frank Kaminsky.

Wisconsin led 31-26 at halftime with eight points each from Kaminsky (eight rebounds) and Sam Dekker (four assists). Spike Albrecht and Zak Irvin combined to shoot 4-of-8 from three in the first half for Michigan, but the Badgers were still able to hold a fairly comfortable lead at the break.

A strong performance by Irvin helped close gap in second half, tied 54-54 with six minutes left after his third 3-pointer of the day. The Badgers' strength on the boards became too much to handle, as Nigel Hayes put the game away with an offensive rebound and putback to make it 65-58 with about a minute to play. Wisconsin outrebounded Michigan 34-19 on the day, with a 12-4 advantage on the offensive boards.
