Maryland was led by Dez Wells. Michigan State was spurred by a team effort over Ohio State. Both teams advance off impressive wins to meet in the B1G Tournament semifinals Saturday, with the winner earning the right to play either Wisconsin or Purdue in the conference championship game.
2015 Big Ten Tournament schedule and bracket: Maryland, Michigan State face in semifinals
Maryland and Michigan State looked very impressive during their quarterfinal matchups. They’ll meet Saturday in Indianapolis for the right to play in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Wells carried the Terps with a 22-point, six-rebound performance over Indiana. The Hoosiers shot cold, going just 7-for-24 from behind the 3-point line, and couldn’t keep Maryland off the foul line. The Terrapins made 25 of their 33 free throw attempts, scoring seven more points at the line than the Hoosiers in a 75-69 win.
Denzel Valentine and the Spartans jumped on Ohio State early and never let their feet off the gas en-route to a 76-67 victory in the quarterfinals. Valentine had 23 points, seven boards, three steals and six assists, outdueling Ohio State’s freshman phenom D’Angelo Russell. Though Russell led the Buckeyes with 19 points, he took 16 shots to get there.
On the other side of the bracket, the conference’s No. 1 seed Wisconsin will take on No. 4 seed Purdue in what should be a fun battle of big frontcourts. National Player of the Year favorite Frank Kaminsky will go up against a pair of fellow seven-footers in A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas.
