The Wyoming Cowboys are looking for their third conference championship in team history, the first since 1988. They pulled the upset on the semifinals in overtime against Boise State thanks to a terrific performance by junior guard Josh Adams, who poured in 27 points to complement the typically steady performance from senior Larry Nance. Nance has been the Cowboys' standout player this year and winning the title and making the tournament would be a great way to end his collegiate career.

In front of them are the San Diego State Aztecs, who easily dispatched a shorthanded Colorado State in the semifinals and beat the Cowboys in their two regular season meets. Aqeel Quinn and Winston Shepard have led the team in scoring all season and did the same in the semis with 16 points apiece. Now that they can count on a finally healthy Dwane Polee, to round up their wing rotation, they are deeper. Their athleticism and the inside presence of shot-blocker Skylar Spencer makes them the favorite.

The game will come down to defense. Wyoming likes to slow things down and the Aztecs have an identity built around grinding teams down with their physicality. The stars for both teams will need to step up and put points on the boards even when defended well because there won’t be many easy points available.
