2015 CBI bracket results: 8 teams move on to quarterfinals

Colorado, UL-Monroe and Oral Roberts are among the teams moving on to the quarterfinal round of the CBI.

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The College Basketball Invitational got started in earnest Wednesday after a single first-round game Tuesday. With the 16 teams having participated, we now know the quarterfinal field for this year’s annual C-list tournament.

The CBI gained some headlines this year when teams like Florida and Michigan turned down the tournament, mostly due to the exorbitant hosting costs and lack of serious exposure. However, the tournament still soldiers on and the teams in the field will be motivated to give their players some more playing time and experience.

This year’s field is hardly a murderer’s row, mostly a group of mid-majors who didn’t do enough in their conference tournaments. Colorado is the only team from a Power Five conference, and the Buffaloes had no problem with their opponent, taking care of Gardner-Webb with ease in an 87-78 victory. Seattle recorded a 17-point win against Pepperdine while Oral Roberts outlasted Santa Barbara 91-87 to also move on.

Here is a complete look at Wednesday’s results.

Mercer 72, Stony Brook 70
Vermont 85, Hofstra 81
Louisiana-Monroe 71, Eastern Michigan 67
Radford 78, Delaware State 57
Oral Roberts 91, UC Santa Barbara 87
Colorado 87, Gardner-Webb 78
Seattle 62, Pepperdine 45
