Underdogs are undefeated against the spread so far at the NCAA Tournament

Favorites are having a tough time so far in the NCAA Tournament.

The first day of the NCAA Tournament hasn't lacked for drama, but the underdogs are cleaning up so far. With 10 games completed, the underdog is 10-0 against the spread so far. The lower-seeded teams haven't won every game, but with the exception of Texas Southern against Arizona, every game has been close. And even Texas Southern managed to cover against the Wildcats, losing by only 21 while coming into the game as 23-point dogs.

Including the First Four games, only two games have finished with margins of victory of 10 points or more, and only one other game has had a margin of victory greater than four. The upsets get the headlines, but upsets plus this many close games means the underdogs are covering at an incredible rate.

It’ll be tough for this streak to keep going much longer, but that doesn’t take away from just how impressive it is.
