Maryland is adding an impact freshman big man for next season. Diamond Stone, a 6’10, 250-pound center from Milwaukee, has committed to Mark Turgeon and the Terrapins.

Stone completes what looks like a very talented starting lineup for Maryland next season. Point guard Melo Trimble is set to return for his sophomore season, and Maryland is also adding Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter at power forward. Carter sat out this past season as a transfer but averaged 11.4 points per game for the Yellow Jackets in the 2013-14 season. Carter was also the No. 33 recruit in the class of 2012, according to ESPN.
Stone has drawn comparison to Andrew Bynum for his throwback offensive arsenal in the low post. He was a member of Team USA’s gold medal winning U17 team at the 2014 FIBA World Championships and was named to the all-tournament team:
