Chris Mullin has accepted the head coaching job at St. John’s, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN. St. John’s parted ways with Steve Lavin after five years on the job last week.

The former Red Storm is going back to his old school.
Mullin played at St. John’s from 1981-85 before becoming the No. 7 overall pick in the NBA Draft. He was named Big East Player of the Year three times and won the Wooden Award as a senior. He finished his college career as St. John’s all-time leading scorer before playing in the NBA from 1985-2001.
Mullin has spent his post-playing career serving in front office decisions around the NBA. He was the the general manager of the Golden State Warriors and has been an advisor to the Sacramento Kings since 2013.
St. John’s finished 21-12 this season and lost its first game of the NCAA Tournament to San Diego State as a No. 9 seed. The immediate future of the team could depend on if junior center Chris Obekpa and sophomore guard Rysheed Jordan decide to turn return to school instead of enter the NBA draft.
