NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket results 2015: Connecticut ends Dayton’s Cinderella run

Overall No. 1 seed Connecticut looked strong against the tournament’s lowest remaining seed.

With Connecticut and Maryland both advancing on Monday, the Final Four this year will be made up entirely of No. 1 seeds.

Although it wasn’t nearly as lopsided as their previous tournament games, the Huskies moved past No. 7 Dayton 91-70 and advanced to the Final Four for the eighth straight year. Dayton’s run as a No. 7 seed was spectacular, considering a relative lack of parity in women’s college basketball at the moment. (The other three eliminated teams in the Elite Eight were all No. 2 seeds.) However, despite hitting 10-of-19 shots from behind the arc, Dayton couldn’t keep up with Geno Auriemma’s Connecticut dynasty.

The Huskies were led by Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who nailed seven three-pointers and finished with 27 points. Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck each added 23 apiece, and Stewart also had 16 rebounds.

The other Monday game was close until the buzzer, with No. 1 Maryland finally pulling away from No. 2 Tennessee thanks to strong free throw shooting in the final minute. Tennessee, who had needed overtime to top No. 11 Gonzaga in the previous round, struggled from the three-point stripe, hitting just 4-of-22.

Maryland had four starters score in double-figures, led by Lexie Brown’s 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Connecticut and Maryland will play each other in the Final Four on Sunday.
