Tom Izzo is rarely known for his recruiting, but the Michigan State coach put the finishing touches on a terrific class for next season on Friday when five-star center Caleb Swanigan committed to the Spartans. Swanigan is rated the No. 8 player in the class of 2015 by ESPN.

Swanigan is 6’8, 275-pound big man from Fort Wayne, Indiana who was one of seven uncommitted players who appeared at the McDonald’s All-American Game in Chicago last week. He picked Michigan State over Cal and Duke.
Swanigan joins what might be the most heralded recruiting class Tom Izzo has landed in years. Michigan State already had one McDonald’s All-American in power forward Deyonta Davis, and shooting guard Matt McQuaid. Davis is rated No. 16 by ESPN and McQuaid is rated No. 67.
Many believe Swanigan was set to join Cal, perhaps as part of a packaged deal alongside other highly-touted uncommitted recruits Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown.
