The matchup between D.J. Balentine and Quinton Upshur will pit two of college basketball’s better scorers against each other for the chance to take home some hardware. Upshur, a former Junior College All-American is shooting just over 38 percent from deep for the year and is vital to the Lumberjacks’ offensive attack.
Balentine, one of the country’s best scorers, nabbing 20 points a game, is the heart and soul of the Purple Aces offense. He scored 28 points in his last game against UT-Martin and shot over 62 percent from the field. For the season, he also shot nearly 40 percent from deep on the year.
Northern Arizona barely got through the quarterfinal, pulling out a 74-73 win against Kent State in overtime. The Lumberjacks never led in overtime until the final bucket. They had an easier time in the semifinals, pulling out a 68-61 win against N.J.I.T., and Evansville cruised into the finals with a 79-66 win against UT-Martin.
