Thon Maker is one of the most coveted high school basketball players in the world. On Tuesday, the 7-footer reportedly cut his list to four schools and ruled out playing professionally overseas as an option.

Maker won’t be playing professionally overseas next season. He’ll be at one of four college campuses.

Maker is considering Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas and Arizona State, according to Evan Daniels of Scout. ASU is the late addition under new coach Bobby Hurley, who left Buffalo to take over the Sun Devils program earlier this month.
Daniels also reports that Maker is likely to enroll during the second semester of the school year. Maker was reportedly considering playing professionally overseas, but is now focused on playing college basketball next season, wherever it may be.
Maker has a unique skill set for a 7-footer. At this stage of his development, he appears to be comfortable as a perimeter shooter and ball handler than he is battling inside as a front court player. He was selected for the Nike Hoops Summit earlier this month, but look often looked physically overwhelmed by the competition.
Just getting to this point has been a whirlwind for Maker. He was born in South Sudan, moved to Australia, played high school ball in Virginia for a couple years and then transferred to Canada’s Athlete Institute before last season.
Maker might not be ready to dominate the college game immediately, but he’s still likely an instant impact player and a great long-term prospect. He gained notoriety a year ago for a highlight mixtape that showed showcased his perimeter skills.
