After Wisconsin’s 68-63 loss to Duke in the national championship, Badgers coach Bo Ryan took a shot at some of his opponents’ one-and-done players.

He calls one-and-done “rent-a-player.”

“All the seniors that I’ve had -- hard to say the word. But every player that’s played through the program, okay, we don’t do a rent-a-player. You know what I mean? Try to take a fifth-year guy. That’s okay. If other people do that, that’s okay. I like trying to build from within. It’s just the way I am. And to see these guys grow over the years and to be here last year and lose a tough game, boom, they came back.”
Beyond the “sore loser” angle, that’s a bad look for Ryan. While the Badgers have gotten some great recruits, they have not been in the conversation for the one-and-done players. And considering that Ryan likes to win, he would almost definitely take Jahlil Okafor or Jabari Parker if he could. Like Ryan, Mike Krzyzewski and John Calipari would love to keep players for four years, but the ones they get are good enough to leave.
Elsewhere in Wisconsin sports, the Badgers were extremely successful in “renting” Russell Wilson.
