Arizona State has a new basketball coach. Bobby Hurley has agreed to jump from Buffalo to become the new coach at Arizona State, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Hurley’s Buffalo team won the MAC this past season and reached the NCAA Tournament as a No. 12 seed before losing in the round of 64 to West Virginia.

Arizona State fired Herb Sendek after nine seasons on the job in March. Sendek only reached the NCAA Tournament twice during his tenure. Hurley gets the gig after spending just two seasons at Buffalo, where he compiled a 42-20 record overall. It was the first head coaching experience of Hurley’s career.
Hurley first entered the college basketball consciousness as a point guard at Duke playing alongside Christian Laettner and Grant Hill. Hurley’s Duke teams won the national championship in 1991 and 1992, and he went on to become the No. 7 overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. His pro career was cut short by a car accident as a rookie.
Hurley comes from a coaching family. His brother, Dan Hurley, is the head coach at Rhode Island, and his father Bob Hurley Sr. is considered one of the greatest high school coaches ever at St. Anthony’s in New Jersey.
