It appears that the college choices for the best basketball players in the class of 2015 aren’t finalized after all. Caleb Swanigan, a five-star big man from Indiana, has decommitted from Michigan State and reopened his recruitment, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Goodman reports that Purdue is a “strong landing spot” for Swanigan.

Swanigan chose the Spartans over Purdue, Kentucky and Cal on April 10. It was a surprising commitment that gave Tom Izzo his best recruiting haul in years. This counts as a major blow for the Spartans. The 6’8, 275-pound center is back on the market, making him the last elite player in the class of 2015 to come off the board.
At Purdue, Swanigan, could join a monster front line with A.J. Hammons that would be among the most intimidating in the country. After Cal landed Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown, the Golden Bears are another intriguing option. Of course, you can never count out Kentucky, either.
The timing of this all is what’s so interesting. Brown’s commitment to Cal was supposed to put a bow on the class of 2015, but now Swanigan has thrown a wrench into that. There were rumors of a packaged deal between Brown, Rabb and Swanigan -- does that come into focus again? And what do we make of Kentucky, another school that was going hard after Swanigan, after John Calipari got shut out in spring recruiting?
Swanigan is now the last player available who could swing the balance of power next season. If he goes to Cal or Kentucky, a contender just got a lot tougher inside. If he chooses Purdue, Matt Painter will have one of the better teams in the Big Ten.
