Michael White from Louisiana Tech is the new head coach of the Florida Gators. White, 38, became the head coach for LA Tech in 2011 after spending a decade as an assistant, eight years with Ole Miss, and four years in various roles at Jacksonville State from 2000-04.

Though he had a shaky first season, over the last three seasons White’s LA Tech teams combined for an 83-24 record and three conference regular season championships with the Bulldogs. Apparently, White has a strong recruiting hold in the state of Florida, so he wouldn’t have an issue getting out to a fast start when he switches helms. Last year’s Bulldogs’ team had five Florida-born players.
White is also the son of Duke Athletic Director, Kevin White. Michael White will replace Billy Donovan, the winningest coach in Florida school history, and has a large task ahead of him of bringing the Gators back to prominence in the SEC. But if there’s anyone who could do it, bringing in a young coach with a good, in-state recruiting history doesn’t hurt.
