The Louisville Cardinals have their first building block for another strong recruiting class in 2016. Ohio native V.J. King picked the Cardinals on Friday afternoon over Kentucky and UConn. King is ranked as the No. 25 player in the class of 2016, according to ESPN.

Louisville’s 2016 class is off to a nice start.


The 6’7 forward began his high school career at LeBron James’ former school at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio before transferring to Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Virginia. He played on Nike’s EYBL circuit for D.C.-based outfit Team Takeover during the summer.
King is just the fourth top-25 player to commit in 2016. He’s Pitino’s first recruit in the 2016 class following a strong 2015 class headlined by wing Deng Adel, guard Donovan Mitchell and big man Ray Spalding. Each of those players ranked in the top 60 nationally in the class, according to ESPN.
King is an athletic, attacking wing who has been competing with USA Basketball since 2012. He has a seven-foot wingspan. Here’s his junior year mixtape:
