5-star recruit De’Aaron Fox trims list to 7

Fox is one of the best in a deep class of point guards graduating high school in 2016.

One of the top point guard recruits in the country is getting closer to making his college decision. De’Aaron Fox, a 6’4 point guard from Katy, Texas, has trimmed his list to seven schools. Fox told ESPN he’s still considering Kentucky, UNC, LSU, NC State, Arizona, Louisville and Kansas.

Fox is ranked as the No. 10 player in his class by ESPN and No. 4 by 247 Sports. He led Nike's EYBL circuit in steals and assists per game while averaging 16.8 points per game. The class of 2016 is loaded at point guard, but Fox is considered one of the very best.

He’s clearly been paying attention during the recruiting process. Fox commented on each of his final seven schools to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, and on the subject of North Carolina, he noted: “And the last four years, he’s had a left-handed point guard. That’s a factor. Some coaches don’t know how to coach a left-handed point guard.”

Fox thrives on attacking the basket and is also considered one of the better perimeter defenders among point guards in his class. Here are a couple reasons why almost every school in the country wants him:

Somewhat surprisingly, Fox did not include Texas on his final list. The Longhorns were leading 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball with 60 percent of the predictions before he cut his list. Fox does not have any official visits set yet and does not yet have a timetable for an announcement.
