Big man Chris Obekpa has a new place to play. The former St. John’s center announced he is transferring to UNLV on his Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon.

One of college basketball’s best shot blockers is headed to Vegas.

Obekpa will have one year of eligibility remaining, but after transferring must sit out the upcoming 2015-16 season. It’s another impressive grab for UNLV head coach Dave Rice during an offseason in which he also landed five-star center Stephen Zimmerman and four-star wing Derrick Jones.
Obekpa was one of the nation’s premier shot blockers last season. He averaged 5.8 points, seven rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game for the Red Storm as a junior. He had 321 blocks in three seasons with St. John’s.
Obekpa rose to notoriety last season in part because of his decision to play in some extremely short shorts. No word yet on if he will continue to rock short shorts at UNLV.
