It’s finally over. No. 8 SMU, the last unbeaten team in America, fell 89-80 to a hot-shooting Temple team in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, putting an end to Larry Brown’s imperfect season.
Temple finally ends SMU’s undefeated season
The last unbeaten has fallen in college basketball.

SMU was trying to go 30-0 in the face of an NCAA Tournament ban, but transfers, redshirts and injuries left the Mustangs with only seven scholarship players. Five SMU players scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Sterling Brown, but Temple’s touch from behind the arc was too much to overcome.
Temple went 14 for 29 from three-point range, led by Devin Coleman, who made all seven of his three-point attempts off the bench.
Coleman’s 23 points helped Temple get its fifth win in six games and improve to 11-7 on the season, and 5-2 in conference. Quenton DeCosey (19 points) and Daniel Dingle (14 points) also came up big for the Owls in the win.
SMU shot only 3 of 13 from deep in the loss. The Mustangs next game is home against Memphis on Saturday.
Ken Pomeroy has been waiting a while to send out this one:
