5-star forward P.J. Washington commits to Kentucky

ESPN’s No. 16 recruit is off the board. John Calipari gets another one.

Five-star forward P.J. Washington committed to Kentucky on Thursday night. He chose the Wildcats over the North Carolina Tar Heels and UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. His decision comes on the second day of the early signing period.

The No. 1 rated player in the state of Texas, Washington is a bruising forward who shines on the glass and can finish in the paint.

Washington, a 6’8 big man, took visits to UNC, UNLV and was in attendance at Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness. He recently canceled trips to Arizona and Texas.

He won a gold medal over the summer as a key contributor to Team USA’s FIBA Americas U18 team. He averaged 10 points and four rebounds and made 21-of-34 shots, good for 62 percent shooting from the field.

Last season for Findlay College Prep, the then-junior averaged 15 points per game on 56 percent shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and dished five assists.
