The 2016-17 college basketball season is still less than a month old, which means only a handful of teams have been the dealt the unfortunate blow of losing a game on a buzzer-beater or a made shot in the closing seconds.
Lipscomb loses to Belmont on a buzzer-beater for the second time in one week
Losing at the buzzer once? Painful. Losing at the buzzer twice? Brutal. Losing at the buzzer twice to the same team in one week? Lipscomb.

Lipscomb laughs at the misfortune of those teams.
The Bisons are one of the many mid- to low-major college basketball programs that struggle to find enough opponents to fill out their nonconference slates. As a result, Lipscomb was forced to schedule multiple home-and-home games against teams from its general area in similar situations.
One of those teams is former Atlantic Sun brethren and longtime “Battle of the Boulevard” rival Belmont, which dominated the conference before bolting for the Ohio Valley in 2012.
The teams met on Nov. 29 at Belmont for the first of their two meetings. A back-and-forth affair was decided in the game's final seconds, when a Lipscomb basket was answered with a pass the near length of the court from Bruins star Evan Bradds to teammate Dylan Windler, who laid in the game-winning shot just before the final buzzer.
Redemption was on Lipscomb’s mind exactly one week later when Belmont walked into Allen Arena. This time, fate made the Bisons play an extra five minutes before ultimately breaking their hearts.
Taylor Barnette’s deep three-pointer with 3.3 seconds to play did the trick.

The good news for Lipscomb is that Tuesday night will be the last time it faces Belmont unless the pair run into each other in a postseason tournament.
