UConn women’s basketball has won four consecutive NCAA championships and 82 straight games, but the Huskies didn’t start the season at No. 1 in the polls this year. That honor belonged to Notre Dame after UConn lost its three leading scorers from last season. That made Wednesday’s game in South Bend the most anticipated matchup of the year in the women’s game, No. 1 vs. No. 2 and a golden opportunity for the Irish to snap UConn’s streak.
No. 1 UConn women beat No. 2 Notre Dame, extend winning streak to 83 games
UConn moved its winning streak to 83 straight games with a huge win at Notre Dame.

It didn’t happen. The Huskies pulled away in the second half for a 72-61 victory that extends the streak to 83 games. It was an impressive victory for Geno Auriemma’s young team and another reminded UConn runs the sport until someone finally beats them.
This is Notre Dame’s first loss of the season and snaps a 35-game home winning streak for the Irish. UConn, who passed Notre Dame in last week’s poll for the first time all season, was led by Gabby Williams, who finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the win. Teammates Napheesa Collier (20 points) and Katie Lou Samuelson (18 points) also had big games in the win.
Brianna Turner led Notre Dame with 16 points in the loss.
