On the same day that its most famous alumnus turned 60 years old, Indiana State scored one of its biggest victories in recent history with a 72-71 upset of No. 16 Butler.
Indiana State celebrates Larry Bird’s 60th birthday with upset win over No. 16 Butler

Larry Bird might not have been in Terre Haute on Wednesday night to celebrate his big day, but he would have been proud of the shooting exhibition that the Sycamore duo of Matt Van Scyoc and Brenton Scott put on.
Van Scyoc, a senior forward, buried six of nine shots from behind the 3-point line on his way to 23 points. That total was surpassed by Scott, who connected on three of his six attempts from deep and dropped a game-high 25 points.

Scott's final point proved to be his most important, as his made free throw with less than two seconds remaining set the game's final score. The free throw also sealed the first loss of the season for Butler, which had been 8-0 with wins over the likes of Arizona, Utah, Vanderbilt and Northwestern.
The victory snapped a nine-game losing streak for Indiana State against ranked opponents, and marked its first win over Butler since 2006. The in-state foes have met 127 times since 1903, with Butler owning an all-time advantage of 70-57.
