SEC Tournament 2016 schedule and bracket: Texas A&M, Kentucky advance to final

The top two seeds will meet in the SEC championship game.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Three top seeds prevailed on Friday at the SEC Tournament. But one of those four teams will be playing to keep slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive on Saturday in semifinal action — and so will Georgia.

That top seed still striving is No. 4 seed LSU, which pulled away from Tennessee late to earn a date with No. 1 seed Texas A&M, which ended Florida's bid to win its way into March Madness. The Tigers, despite the unfathomable skills of Ben Simmons, don't have an NCAA Tournament-ready resume, and really need to win the entire SEC Tournament to get deeper into March. Against the Aggies, who split a home-and-home series with LSU in 2015-16, Simmons and company face a stiff test.

But No. 6 Georgia, which upset No. 3 South Carolina in Friday’s final quarterfinal, faces a much stiffer one in No. 2 Kentucky, which rolled Alabama by 26 on Friday. The Wildcats blasted the Bulldogs by 34 in Rupp Arena earlier this season, and have only improved since then, which bodes poorly for their Nashville rematch.

Kentucky, Texas A&M and South Carolina might all be playing for NCAA Tournament positioning, but each is solidly within every projected field.
