March Madness bracket 2016: Angel Rodriguez shoots Miami past Wichita State

Miami’s madman made the most of his shots on Saturday.

No. 3 Miami's Angel Rodriguez had a career-high 28 points and Sheldon McClellan added 18 as the Hurricanes recovered from blowing a 21-point lead to No. 11 Wichita State for a 65-57 win in a South Region second round game in the 2016 NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

Miami bolted from the gate in the first half, building a 27-6 lead and making the Shockers, playing their third game in five days, seem as tired as that travel itinerary would make mortals. But Wichita State recovered and sliced the Hurricanes’ lead to 13 points by halftime, then staged a 22-4 run to briefly take the lead.

Down the stretch, though, Rodriguez — who had gone 7-for-7 in the first half — took over, with his first make of the second half looking ready for inclusion in the “One Shining Moment” montage.

Rodriguez followed that answered prayer of a floater with an icy three, shutting the door on a Shockers squad that had nine NCAA Tournament wins over the last four seasons.

It’s the second trip to the Sweet Sixteen in four years for the Hurricanes, who also went in 2013 as a No. 2 seed.

No. 3 Miami 65, No. 11 Wichita State 57
