Despite being situated nearly three hours away from the “Cathedral of College Basketball,” Penn State will play a home conference game inside the Palestra in 2017.
Penn State basketball moves home game against Michigan State to Palestra
One of the most famous arenas in college basketball will play host to a Big Ten conference game in 2017.

The Nittany Lions announced Monday that they are moving their Jan. 7, 2017 home game against Michigan State to the famous arena located in Philadelphia. Six Penn State players, as well as head coach Pat Chambers, are from the Philadelphia area.
“We cannot wait to take the Big Ten into Philadelphia this season,” Chambers said in a press release. “It is always an incredible experience to play in the Palestra and we are honored to do it this time as the home team. We have so many ties to the city as a program and we look forward to connecting with the alumni and fans in the area.
“I want to thank the Big Ten Conference for working with us to make this game happen, and allowing our vision of playing a Big Ten game in the Palestra to come to fruition.”
Penn State has won 11 of its last 18 games inside the Palestra, including a win over Drexel last season. This will be the first time the Spartans have taken the court inside the historic gymnasium during the Tom Izzo era.
