Villanova held on to the top spot in this week’s AP Poll by earning 35 out of a potential 65 first-place votes. Second-ranked Kansas picked up 28 of the remaining votes for the top spot, while unbeaten and third-ranked Gonzaga received the other two.

It was a rough week for the two teams that were tied at No. 7 seven days ago.


Kentucky, which has been rolling through the SEC but has a non-conference showdown with Kansas on Saturday, is up one spot to No. 4. Baylor and its 18-1 record rounds out the top five.
The two teams that tied for the No. 7 spot last week were the two biggest fallers in this week's poll. West Virginia tumbled all the way to No. 18 after being beaten at home by Oklahoma and falling on the road to Kansas State. Creighton, which lost starting point guard Maurice Watson Jr. for the season to a torn ACL and later was beaten at home by Marquette, fell to No. 16.
