Georgia, Missouri basketball coaches fight before halftime

In what was perhaps the most exciting minute of SEC basketball this season, tempers flared between Georgia and Missouri players and coaches just before halftime of Saturdays’s contest in Athens.

With Missouri set to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room at halftime, a brief scrum took place under the Georgia basket following the first half buzzer. Things further escalated when Kent Davison, Georgia’s director of basketball operations, and Missouri assistant coach Steve Shields appeared to come to blows. The two coaches had to be restrained as the pushing and shoving continued.

Both sides were assessed technical fouls for the incident. Neither team shot free-throws as a result, but both did begin the second half with one team foul apiece.

Missouri entered Saturday’s game riding a five-game losing streak that has them at 5-8 overall and has head coach Kim Anderson on one of the hottest seats in the country.
