Here’s how you can play a college basketball version of ‘NBA 2K18’

PS4 users can turn NBA 2K18 into a college hoops video game just like this.

Ricky O'Donnell
Ricky O'Donnell has covered basketball at all levels for more than a decade at SB Nation. He’s currently the Associate Director of Programming.

College basketball fans have been wading through the wilderness without a video game to call their own since Blake Griffin graced the cover of NCAA Basketball ‘10 in an Oklahoma jersey. The last great college hoops video game? That would be the now decade-old College Hoops 2K8 which featured Greg Oden in his Ohio State get up on the cover.

Fortunately, the new NBA 2K18 offers a workaround thanks to the devotion one of community uploader. A gamer by the name of SkillazKill has created 30 college basketball programs that can be uploaded into your NBA 2K18 dynasty — featuring full rosters, coaching staffs, and customized courts.

The video above shows a step-by-step process of how to turn NBA 2K18 into a college hoops video game. Here are the most important steps:

  • Start a MyLeague dynasty, select “Upload custom roster”, search SkillazKill as the username and upload College Roster 2K18.
  • Take control of all 30 teams in your dynasty so you can customize each franchise.
  • Go to the “Team Relocation” tab, select “Upload/Download team design” and rebrand each NBA team with their corresponding college program.

Here’s a full list of the college teams available and their NBA counterparts

Atlantic Division: Florida Gators (Knicks), Missouri Tigers (Nets), Louisville Cardinals (Celtics), Duke Blue Devils (76ers), North Carolina Tar Heels (Raptors)

Central Division: Miami Hurricanes (Bulls), Virginia Tech Hokies (Cavaliers), Seton Hall Pirates (Pistons), Villanova Wildcats (Pacers), Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Bucks)

Southeast Division: Alabama Crimson Tide (Hawks), Kentucky Wildcats (Hornets), Texas A&M Aggies (Wizards), Cincinnati Bearcats (Heat), UCONN Huskies (Magic)

Northwest Division: Indiana Hoosiers (Nuggets), Maryland Terrapins (Timberwolves), Minnesota Golden Gophers (Thunder), Michigan State Spartans (Jazz), Wisconsin Badgers (Trail Blazers)

Pacific Division: Arizona Wildcats (Clippers), USC Trojans (Warriors), Wichita State Shockers (Suns), UCLA Bruins (Lakers), Gonzaga Bulldogs (Kings)

Southwest Division: Texas Longhorns (Spurs), Baylor Bears (Pelicans), Kansas Jayhawks (Mavericks), West Virginia Mountaineers (Grizzlies), Oklahoma Sooners (Rockets)

The whole thing takes about 30 minutes, but it’s worth it if you’re starving for a playable college basketball simulation.

When it’s complete, your start up menu will look like this:

Yes, there’s even a cover athlete for this patchwork version of a new college basketball video game: Michigan State star Miles Bridges.

The level of detail in this is astounding. There’s even Papa John’s advertisements placed around Louisville’s arena!

Papa would be proud.

These court designs look fantastic, too.

The players look pretty good, as well. Here’s Mizzou stud Michael Porter Jr.

20 more teams will be added to this throughout the year. Here’s the rundown:

For now, SkillazKill’s version is only available on PS4, but you can find comparable (if no as detailed) models on X-Box One, as well.
