The first day of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament saw one of the largest upsets of the early 2017-2018 college basketball season, with the North Carolina State Wolfpack beating the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats, 90-84, at Imperial Arena in Nassau, Bahamas.

Allerik Freeman scored 23 for the Wolfpack, who improved to 5-0 on the season. Freshman guard Braxton Beverly added 20 for North Carolina State, including 3-of-5 shooting from deep.

Wednesday night was North Carolina State’s first win against a top-2 team since beating Duke on Jan. 11, 2015.

Allonzo Trier scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, and his layup with 5:43 remaining gave Arizona its second lead of the game, at 73-71.

North Carolina State outscored the Wildcats 19-11 the rest of the way to close out the win. The Wolfpack will next play Thursday against the winner of SMU and Northern Iowa. Arizona will play the loser of that game, also on Thursday.
