UTEP is suddenly looking for a new coach.

After winning its opener against Division III Louisiana College, UTEP hasn’t won another game this season. That includes losses to Boise State, South Carolina, Appalachian State, and New Mexico State before Lamar. The Miners are currently ranked No. 179 in the country on KenPom.
Floyd had coached UTEP since 2010, compiling a 135–81 record. The Miners never reached the NCAA tournament under his watch, but they did make two NIT appearances.
Floyd, now 63 years old, first rose to prominence coaching Iowa State in the late 90s when he presided over NCAA tournament teams three times. Floyd gained even more notoriety when he was hired by the Chicago Bulls to replace Phil Jackson at the start of the franchise’s post-Michael Jordan era. Floyd finished 49-190 during three and a half seasons in Chicago.
Floyd also coached USC for three seasons, where he took a team led by Nick Young and Taj Gibson to the Sweet 16 in 2007. Floyd eventually resigned from the program following allegations of misconduct regarding former star recruit O.J. Mayo.
The Miners face New Mexico State again on Thursday.
