The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets found a heartbreaking way to lose on Friday night, falling to the Grambling State Tigers 64-63 at home, with the game-winning basket inadvertently tipped into their own basket by Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech loses to Grambling State by tipping a rebound into their own basket

Down a point in the final seconds, Ivy Smith Jr. drove to the basket for Grambling State, but missed a driving layup. In the battle for the rebound, both Curtis Haywood II and Ben Lammers vied for the rebound for the Yellow Jackets, only to instead accidentally tip the ball into their own hoop with 6.5 seconds remaining.
Friday’s play was similar to a finish three years ago, when Jacob Kurtz of Florida tipped in a rebound at the buzzer to give Florida State the win.
Georgia Tech fell to 4-2 with the loss, which was their first home loss of the season.
Grambling State was just 1-5 before Friday’s win, and had just a .191 winning percentage over the previous six seasons, averaging 24 losses per year.
