It’s Trae Young’s world, and we’re all just living in it. The Oklahoma freshman had an offensive explosion on Saturday afternoon as the Sooners knocked off No. 3 Wichita State, 91-83, for a gigantic road win.
Trae Young goes nuclear as Oklahoma shocks No. 3 Wichita State on the road
The freshman guard had 21 points and seven assists in the first half alone.

Young is drawing Stephen Curry comparisons early in his college career. That really isn’t fair for a college freshman, but Young’s impossible offensive production makes the surface-level similarities hard to ignore. He was at his best against Wichita State, finishing with 29 points and 10 assists in the win.
Young can score from anywhere
There is no shot Young’s scared of. That’s true if it’s a deep three-pointer or a fearless drive to the hole against an opposing big man. He had the full display working against the Shockers: floaters, scoops, pull-ups, and the rest.
Young hit 9-of-22 shots from the field, 4-of-11 three-pointers, and all seven of his free throws. He had 21 points and seven assists at the half, but he was largely contained by the Shockers in the second half. Credit Shockers guard Landry Shamet for much of that. Young also just looked tired.
He should be. No one in the country is carrying a bigger offensive load right now. With this marquee road win, it looks likely the whole country will be able to watch Young in the NCAA Tournament come March.
This is now seven straight games with 28 points or more for Young.
Oklahoma is more than a one-man show
As Young was slowed down in the second half, the Sooners showed their depth. Fellow freshman Brady Manek — a 6’9 forward who hails from the state, like Young -- finished with a career-high 21 points on the strength of five three-pointers.
Sophmore guard Kameron McGusty also had a big night off the bench. He knocked down a trio of three-pointers to finish with 13 points.
Add in Khadeem Lattin’s typically stellar rim protection, and it’s clear there’s a lot to like about Oklahoma.
