Villanova remains the No. 1 team in the polls for the second week in a row as college basketball’s new rankings have been announced. The Wildcats thumped Temple by 20 points in a crosstown showdown on Wednesday and have one more tune-up before beginning Big East play against DePaul Dec. 27.
NCAA basketball rankings 2017: Villanova stays at No. 1 while Oklahoma rises
The Sooners’ big win over Wichita State has them charging up the polls.


The rest of the top five has Michigan State at No. 2, Arizona State at No. 3, Duke at No. 4, and North Carolina at No. 5.
Wichita State — last week’s No. 3 team — falls all the way to No. 11 after losing to freshman sensation Trae Young and Oklahoma. The Sooners, who were previously unranked, are now No. 17 in the polls.
Aside from Oklahoma, the only new team in this week’s rankings is Creighton. The Bluejays are 8-2 and face a big test at No. 23 Seton Hall on Dec. 28.
