The 2017 Big Ten Tournament raged on from Washington D.C. on the second day of a full slate of games with Friday’s quarterfinals. The tournament may not have a dominant team, but the highest seeded squad is now out.

After a harrowing beginning to their tournament journey, featuring a plane skidding off the runway before they even took off from Michigan, the Wolverines faced off against No. 1 Purdue. They got to wear their actual jerseys for this game as opposed to the practice jerseys they rocked in Thursday’s game.

For the second time this season, Michigan would prevail over Purdue beating the Boilermakers, 74-70.

Other scores from Friday in the Big Ten:

No. 4 Minnesota beat No. 5 Michigan State

In the second game of the afternoon session, the Spartans beat the Golden Gophers, 63-58. Sparty could barely put the ball in the basket, shooting 38 percent from the field.

Michigan and Minnesota will face off in the semifinals from D.C. on Saturday.

No. 2 Wisconsin beat No. 10 Indiana

The Badgers got a comfortable 70-60 win over the Hoosiers and now the Tom Crean job speculation begin in earnest as IU is likely to miss the tournament. In a story in The Indianapolis Star, Crean vehemently denied speculation he was a candidate for the recently vacated Mizzou job.

“Normally, I don’t comment on my job or any other open job, or on any speculation at all — and going forward, this is the only time I will do it, here to you — but I want to put that to rest. I’m coaching my team. I love coaching here.”

No. 6 Northwestern beat No. 3 Maryland

Bow before basketball powerhouse Northwestern. They’ve never made the NCAA tournament, but they’re well on their way this season with another nice win. The Wildcats dispatched the Terps, 72-64, and will face Wisconsin in Saturday’s other semifinal matchup.

It’s the first time the Wildcats have been this deep in the Big Ten tournament.
