It’s that time of year again. March Madness is here, and so is the beautiful part of the sports calendar where you make up every and any excuse to not work and watch basketball all day.

The first games of the tournament get going on Tuesday night. On both Tuesday and Wednesday night, there are back-to-back doubleheaders as part of the First Four play-in games.

The first Tuesday night game is between No. 16 Mount Saint Mary’s, the Northeast Conference champions, and No. 16 New Orleans, who won the Southland conference. Mount Saint Mary’s finished the season with a 19-15 record. The Mountaineers are led offensively by sophomore guard Elijah Long, who averages 15 points per game. New Orleans head into Tuesday night’s game with a 20-11 record. The Privateers’ leading scorer is senior forward Erik Thomas, who has 20 points per game, along with eight rebounds per game.

The winner of this first game between the No. 16 seeds doesn’t have much to celebrate a victory. The winner advances to face the No. 1 overall seed Villanova in the East Region.

Next we have No. 11 Kansas State vs. No. 11 Wake Forest. K-State finished sixth in the Big 12, with a 20-13 record. Wake Forest finished 19-13 overall, and if the Demon Deacons make it in, they’ll be the ninth ACC team in the Big Dance. The winner of this one faces No. 6 Cincinnati in the South.
