Virginia Tech students sang Smash Mouth’s ‘All-Star’ to distract Wisconsin players shooting free throws

Somebody once told them this would work.

As the Virginia Tech Hokies took on the Wisconsin Badgers on Thursday night in the NCAA tournament first round, Nigel Hayes went to the free throw line. VT students did what they needed to do. (Turn your volume all the way up.)

They sang “All Star” by Smash Mouth to distract him from the shot.

Speaking as a person around Nigel’s age, I’d have to say hearing the sweet tones of Smash Mouth, being sung as nicely as these fans did it, would only calm me down. Maybe it even put him in the zone, considering the song was released during his formative years.

Ultimately, Wisconsin won, knocking VT out of the tournament.

Maybe next year, Hokies. Until then, keep singing.
