Florida’s coach told his players he ‘loves Migos’ during a huddle pep talk

Mike White asked his players to play one of their songs before the Gators’ game Thursday.

On Thursday, Florida Gators men’s basketball head coach Mike White successfully got his team a win over No. 15 East Tennessee State, advancing the Gators to the second round where they’ll face No. 5 Virginia on Saturday night.

Before the game, White apparently asked his players to put on “Pipe It Up,” a song by the rap group Migos. After the victory, Gator senior Devin Robinson explained the hilarious exchange that included White asking his players to put it on in the huddle before tipoff.

Robinson: “All right, so, we were in the huddle, and we were listening to the song by Migos, if y’all know who Migos is.”

White: “I do now. I don’t know who sang it.”

Robinson: “Yeah, Migos, and it’s called ‘Pipe It Up.’ And Coach White was like ‘C’mon guys, let’s pipe it up! I love that song!’”

OK. Mike White is officially my new favorite college basketball head coach. In case you have no idea who Migos is or what “Pipe It Up” sounds like, here you go:

Now White isn’t the first college coach to have an affinity for Migos. Last year, Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh bonded with the group. He dabbed with them in Michigan apparel, and he dabbed with them again on Signing Day. Their friendship was further solidified when he got on-stage at one of Migos’ concerts and danced with them.

Last year, CBS Sports put together a list of college basketball head coaches’ favorite artists. Some of the names from the list that would fit, or at least sit near Migos, in terms of genre included USC’s Andy Enfield for Beyonce, Tulsa’s Frank Haith and Boyz II Men, Baylor’s Scott Drew for Lecrae, Weber State’s Randy Rahe and The Temptations, and Fresno State’s Rodney Terry for Chris Brown.

Hopefully Florida can keep winning so White can keep listening to “Pipe It Up” in the coming weeks as the NCAA tournament continues.
