The Connecticut Huskies are once again looking like the team to beat in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. Syracuse will have a chance to try to knock off the No. 1 seed when the two teams kick off Monday’s slate of eight games.

UConn dominated in the first round, taking down No. 16-seeded Albany. It was an absolute rout, with the Huskies taking the win with a final score of 116-55. The next obstacle in UConn’s quest for a fifth consecutive national title is Syracuse. The Syracuse women are coming off of a big win over No. 9 Iowa State, but they have their work cut out for them against UConn.

No. 1 Baylor will face off against Cal on Monday, and the Golden Bears are fresh off a close first-round win over the No. 8-seeded LSU Tigers. Cal, a No. 9 seed, have a tough task in front of them with the Bears. Baylor dispatched Texas Southern in the first round, setting records for the highest score and the largest margin of victory in tournament history in the 119-30 win.

It looked like the No. 15 New Mexico State Aggies might pull off an upset win over No. 2 Stanford, but the Cardinal ladies fought back to get the 72-64 victory in the first round. Stanford will face No. 7 Kansas State on Monday. The Wildcats fought their way into the second round with a 67-54 win over Drake, and they’ll face off against Stanford with the hope of advancing to the Sweet 16.
