Cal promotes assistant Wyking Jones to replace Cuonzo Martin, per report
The Bears are promoting from within to find their new head basketball coach.

Jones spent four seasons as an assistant under Rick Pitino at Louisville before coming to Cal. Jones was a member of the staff when the Cardinals captured the 2013 national championship. He also spent time as a coach at New Mexico, Pacific, and Loyola Marymount.
Jones was a standout player at Loyola Marymount in the 90s and also played professionally in Europe.
The main objective for Jones will be keeping the current roster intact. That starts with point guard Charlie Moore, the Chicago native who just turned in a productive freshman season. The Bears will be losing sophomore forward Ivan Rabb to the NBA, but there’s a promising recruiting class coming in, led by four-star wing Kemari Baker.
