Marvin Menzies has landed his first signature recruit at UNLV. Brandon McCoy, a 5-star center from California, committed to the Runnin’ Rebels on Tuesday night over Oregon, Michigan State, and Arizona, according to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi.
UNLV lands 5-star recruit Brandon McCoy over Arizona, Oregon
This is a shocker: the Rebels have landed elite center Brandon McCoy.

McCoy is rated as the No. 15 player in the class of 2017 by ESPN. He is a 7-foot, 245-pound center who can lock down the paint defensively and clean the glass. This is a huge get for a UNLV team that finished just 11-21 in Menzies’ first season last year.
McCoy made the announcement on Twitter:
UNLV was used to landing big-time recruits under former coach Dave Rice. Rice signed 5-star recruits like Anthony Bennett and Stephen Zimmerman before getting fired in January 2016. After a circus-like coaching search, Menzies left New Mexico State to take the job.
UNLV still faces an uphill climb to compete in the Mountain West, but this a huge first piece. The Rebels finished just 4-14 in conference last season.
