The NCAA allows basketball teams to travel to one international event every four years. Duke was supposed to take that trip this year to the Dominican Republic. On Thursday, the Blue Devils announced they are canceling the trip as head coach Mike Krzyzewski undergoes knee surgery.

Duke did get in three summer practices before making the decision to cancel the trip. The hope for Duke is that Krzyzewski’s knee replacement goes well and he’s back on the sidelines for the start of the season. Coach K missed a month of last season as he recovered from back surgery.
Duke lost a ton of talent over the offseason — Luke Kennard, Jayson Tatum, Harry Giles, Amile Jefferson among them — but has of course reloaded with an exciting new crop of freshmen. There’s also still a chance the Blue Devils can land top recruit Marvin Bagley III for this upcoming season, too.
