There are rough Saturday nights, and then there’s what happened to Dayton forward Sam Miller this past weekend.
Dayton basketball player Sam Miller facing assault charge after jail fight
Thrown out of bar? Check. Arrested? Check. Loss of pants? Check. Losing a fight to cell mate? Check.

According to public records obtained by the Dayton Daily News, it all started in the early hours of Sunday morning when Miller, who is only 20 years old, was cut off by the bartender at Caddy’s Taphouse in nearby Beavercreek. The bartender told police Miller became enraged, knocked all the glasses that were on the bar to the floor, and shoved her. Miller then also shoved a security officer, who held him on the ground until police arrived.
Things only got worse for Miller in jail.
For starters, he refused to stop screaming profanities at the police officers, and his speech was slurred and impossible to comprehend. He then urinated on the corner of the room where he was being held, and took off his pants.
Impossibly, the night got even more embarrassing for Miller once he was placed in a holding cell with another inmate. Video from the jail shows that Miller started a fight with his cellmate by walking over to him and slapping him in the face. Miller did not win the fight.
On Monday, Miller was charged with misdemeanor assault to go along with the disorderly conduct by intoxication and underage consumption charges he was hit with on Sunday.
“The University of Dayton is aware of an incident, but cannot discuss individual student matters because of federal privacy laws,” Dayton athletic director Neil Sullivan said in a statement. “With all student conduct matters, the university responds in accordance with the university’s student code of conduct and other applicable standards.”
A native of Washington, D.C, Miller has appeared in 53 games for the Flyers over the past two seasons. He averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2016-17.
