Some Texas schools are also contributing to the effort with their upcoming college football openers.
Baylor is offering free tickets to those affected for its home opener against Liberty on Friday night, and SMU is offering both free tickets and food for its game on Saturday against Stephen F. Austin.
Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has urged people to donate to the relief effort, and the Aggies will wear a helmet sticker against their opener on Sunday at UCLA to raise awareness.
The Texas Longhorns let Houston’s football team practice in their indoor facility last weekend, although the Cougars’ season opener against Arizona has since been moved to next weekend and relocated to Tucson. The Longhorns also supported J.J. Watt’s donation campaign, which has now raised $5.1 million, with a new goal of $6 million set.
A total of nine FBS schools in Texas will also be donating equipment trucks and drivers to collect donations in Austin on Thursday, as well. KHOU-TV in Houston has more:
TCU has encouraged people to donate, as well.
The AAC and its 13 member schools also made a $100,000 donation to the Red Cross to help with the recovery efforts.
And LSU and BYU saw their game in Houston moved to New Orleans, but the many Tigers who are from the area have offered encouragement.
