5-star PG Immanuel Quickley commits to Kentucky, the Wildcats’ 1st 2018 recruit

Quickley joins a long line of five-star point guards that John Calipari has successfully brought to his programs.

Yet again, Kentucky has swayed a five-star point guard to their program. The team will welcome Immanuel Quickley to the school next season, the first prospect in the Class of 2018 to commit to the Wildcats so far.

Quickley, ranked No. 8 in his class by 247, is the 33rd five-star recruit by John Calipari since 2000. If you go back further to 2004, Calipari has brought 14 five-star point guards to his programs, with 12 of them coming to the Wildcats.

By joining Kentucky, Quickley is poised to join a long line of successful floor generals. Just this decade, there has been John Wall, Brandon Knight, Archie Goodwin, Devin Booker (though not quite a point guard), Tyler Ulis, De’Aaron Fox, and now five-star freshman Quade Green. Kentucky recruits well at every position, but they have been particularly successful at nabbing guards.

Kentucky had been the longtime leader for Quickley, but Kansas and Miami were also finalists.

Quickley is a 6’4 true point guard from Bel Air, Maryland, seeing the floor well and using his size to constantly attack a defense. He’s a competent shooter and plays above-average defense. His top-10 status in next year’s high school class is absolutely deserved.

Kentucky is far from being done, and Quickley has a good friendship with the No. 2 prospect in his draft class (and internet favorite), Zion Williamson. Quickley had hinted at the possibility of the two prospects being a combo deal earlier this summer, but there’s no signs that Williamson or Kentucky have any sort of deal in place. Calipari will also pursue the draft class’ top recruit, R.J. Barrett.
