It has been a rough 48 hours for the Arizona basketball program.
Arizona guard Rawle Alkins out 8-12 weeks with broken bone in foot
A rough week for the Wildcats just got worse.

On Tuesday, Wildcat assistant coach Book Richardson was one of four college basketball assistants arrested by the FBI and charged with fraud and corruption. Richardson allegedly accepted a $20,000 bribe, which he used to pay at least one recruit to play for Arizona. Richardson was immediately suspended by the school and relieved of all his professional duties.
That same day, according to a release from Arizona Wednesday night, sophomore guard Rawle Alkins fractured a bone in his right foot while participating in a voluntary workout with teammates. The release also says that Alkins underwent successful surgery on Wednesday, but will be sidelined for 8-12 weeks.
Alkins was a standout performer for Arizona as a freshman in 2016-17, averaging 10.9 ppg and 4.9 rpg. After turning down the NBA Draft last May, he has been projected by many this offseason to be a breakout sophomore star in 2017-18.
Just a couple of days ago, Arizona had been considered one of the teams most likely to begin the upcoming season ranked No. 1 in the country. The events of the last 48 hours have now called that into question.
