Texas Longhorns basketball player Andrew Jones has been diagnosed with leukemia, the school has announced. Texas issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
Texas basketball star Andrew Jones diagnosed with leukemia
The program has announced the sophomore guard has begun treatment for leukemia.

Jones, a sophomore guard, fractured his wrist on Dec. 11 and was sidelined for four games before returning to the lineup on Dec. 29 against Kansas. Jones would play one more game against Iowa State on Jan. 1 before again exiting the lineup with an “undisclosed illness.”
If you would like to donate, Texas has made a fundraising website public here to help Andrew.
Jones is Texas’ second-leading scorer this season at 13.5 points per game.
Jones was a McDonald’s All-American in high school and tested the NBA draft waters last season after a successful freshman campaign. He was supposed to be the Longhorns’ co-star alongside freshman center Mohamed Bamba this season.
We projected Jones as a first round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft in our initial mock. Jones is a shifty 6’4 combo guard who can score from three levels. He was making major strides as a shooter this season, improving his three point percentage from 32 percent as a freshman to 46 percent this season.
Jones has begun treatment for his illness, according to the school.
We’ll update this story as it develops.
