The Big 12 is one of the most - if not THE most - exciting conference races this year in college basketball. Five of the conference’s ten teams are ranked in the top 16 of this week’s AP Poll and another is receiving votes. Each conference game has been hard-fought and thrilling, and Saturday’s matchup between Kansas State and No. 12 Kansas was no different.

The Jayhawks (14-3, 4-1 Big 12) are trying for their 14th-straight regular season Big 12 title and they struggled with the unranked Wildcats (12-5, 2-3 Big 12) all afternoon. The two squads were knotted at 34 heading into halftime, and Kansas used two free throws from Malik Newman to take a 73-72 lead with 15 seconds left. K-State’s head coach Bruce Weber took the Wildcats’ last timeout between Newman’s two free throws, during which time you’d assume they came up with a final play. That may not have been the case.
What was the plan there? Barry Brown is definitely a playmaker, but that’s just about as terrible a final play as you can draw up or execute in this situation. The last few minutes were not great for Coach Weber:
