This is so rare.

Saturday was not kind to bluebloods in the ACC. After No. 10 North Carolina was upset at home in overtime by NC State, Duke fell to Virginia, 65-63, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

It’s the first time both programs have lost at home on the same day since 1973.

NC State played its hearts out in Chapel Hill

UNC did not play a poor game by any means on Saturday. NC State just so happened to play a great one.

The Wolfpack hit 15 three-pointers at a 50 percent clip to shock North Carolina in overtime. Allerik Freeman came off the bench to score 29 points, while Markell Johnson and Torin Dorn each added 20 points.

The Tar Heels had a chance in the final moments after stealing a late inbounds pass, but they immediately turned the ball over:

Roy Williams might want to give his team some extra practice from the foul line this week. Carolina shot just 11-of-20 on free throws in the loss.

UNC is now 16-6, 5-4, while NC State moves to 15-7, 5-4.

Duke loses style clash to Virginia

Duke rallied late against UVA, because Duke always rallies. This time, the Blue Devils did not have enough firepower to complete the comeback. Virginia’s defense is just that menacing.

Despite a 30-point, 14-rebound performance from star freshman Marvin Bagley, Virginia controlled the tempo and hit big shots late to secure the win. None were bigger than this deep three by Ty Jerome:

Virginia is still undefeated in the ACC, moving to 20-1, 9-0 with the win. That means Duke is three games behind UVA heading into the second half of conference play.

Four Virginia players reached double-figures in scoring on the afternoon, led by Kyle Guy’s 17 points.
